Sharing files

Share a file or folder with a person, a team, an email address or every signed-in account, or create a public link with a password.

You share from the Shared tab of Nubo Home or from inside an app. A share gives read or write access to a file or folder, and you can take it back at any time. A public link lets anyone with the link read the item, even without an account.

Who can I share with?

Holder What it means
A person Another Nubo user, by username.
A team Everyone in a team you belong to.
An email address Pending until that person has an account, then attached at their first listing.
Anyone Every signed-in Nubo account.

Each share is read or write, and can have an expiry. A share on a folder covers everything below it.

What are the rules?

  • Only the owner can share. A person you shared with cannot share it onward.
  • You cannot share your home folder, or share with yourself.
  • The owner’s storage is the truth: reads and writes go through the owner’s files and the owner’s quota applies. Someone with write access cannot delete the shared folder itself.
  • Renaming or moving a shared item keeps the share working.
  • If your organization has a limit on seats, sharing with a named person outside it needs them to be a member or hold an invitation. See Plans and seats.

A public link is a random address. It is read-only and can have an expiry of up to one year and a password. Anyone with the link can read the file, or the folder’s contents, without an account. After several wrong passwords the link slows down further tries. Revoke a link in the Shared tab: “Anyone using it will lose access.”

Can a team stop members sharing outside?

Yes. A team owner or admin can switch off external sharing for the team. Members can then share only with people who share a team with them; email shares, “anyone” shares and public links are refused. Turning it off for the team drive also revokes that drive’s existing shares and public links.

Who sees what I shared?

Every grant, change, revoke, edit or delete made through a share, and every link created, opened or revoked, is written to the owner’s share log for 90 days and to the platform activity feed. People you share with receive an in-app notification.

How do I stop sharing?

In Shared, stop sharing the item, or leave a share you received. The item stays with its owner.

What does not exist yet?

There is no email notice for every share, no thumbnails in shared listings and no plan gating on link shares: any account may create them.
