Updates and lifecycle
Nubo OS 1 gets security updates to April 2031. This page explains the stable and beta channels and how updates reach your machine.
Nubo OS 1 is built on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, which has five years of security updates, to April 2031. Nubo OS inherits that period for the base system. Nubo’s own packages come from a signed Nubo archive. Nubo has not published a separate end-of-life date; treat April 2031 as the outer limit.
Where do updates come from?
| Part | Source | Period |
|---|---|---|
| Ubuntu base system | Ubuntu’s archive through Nubo Cumulus, with Ubuntu’s servers as fallback | To April 2031 |
Nubo packages (nubo-*) |
archive.nubosuite.tech, signed with the Nubo archive key |
While Nubo OS 1 is maintained |
| Apps from Flathub | Flathub, through Flatpak | Set by each app’s publisher |
Nubo OS does not include the Ubuntu Pro client, so Ubuntu’s extended maintenance past the standard period is not offered.
What are the channels?
| Channel | Suite | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Stable | resolute |
Default. Packages promoted from beta. |
| Beta | resolute-beta |
Early packages for testers. |
nubo-channel
sudo nubo-channel beta
sudo nubo-channel stable
sudo apt upgrade
The stable channel is empty today because Nubo OS 1 is still in beta.
Are security updates automatic?
Yes. The nubo-archive package turns on automatic installation of Nubo and Ubuntu security updates. Automatic reboots are off.
Can I upgrade to a later release?
Release upgrades are not available yet. The Ubuntu release-upgrade prompt is switched off, so do not run do-release-upgrade. Nubo will document the path when a later release exists.
Can I avoid Nubo Cumulus?
Yes, but the documented method (create /etc/nubo/no-cumulus and reinstall nubo-archive) does not restore Ubuntu’s source file on a machine that already switched. See the known issues page.
