Custom domain and mail setup

Add your own domain to a Nubo team, publish the DNS records, check the MX record and give each member an address on it.

To use name@yourcompany.com, the team owner adds the domain in the Teams tab, publishes the DNS records Nubo shows, and checks them. Once the MX record points to mail.nubo.email the domain is marked verified and each member can be given an address on it.

How do I add my domain?

  1. Sign in as the team owner and open Teams in Nubo Home.
  2. In the Custom domain card, enter your domain, for example acme.com, and choose Add domain. You can also enter it when you first create the team.
  3. Nubo shows the DNS records to publish. Add them at your DNS provider.
  4. Choose Check DNS. The card changes from “waiting for DNS” to “verified, mail is live”.

What exactly does Nubo check?

Only the MX record: it must point to mail.nubo.email. Nubo does not check or create any other record.

What about SPF, DKIM and DMARC?

They are your responsibility. DKIM signing for custom domains is not built, and there is no postmaster mailbox for the domain. Mail you send from a custom domain may therefore be unsigned. Which SPF and DMARC values to publish for a custom domain is not yet published; ask support before you switch live mail.

How do I give a member an address?

After the domain is verified, choose Address beside the member’s name and enter the part before the @. The member then has name@yourdomain in Nubo Mail, next to their @nubo.email address.

How do I switch my company mail over safely?

Keep the old mailboxes open and read-only for a while after the switch, lower the DNS time-to-live a day or two before, and change the MX record last. See Moving your email.

What can go wrong?

  • Stuck on “waiting for DNS”. DNS changes can take time to spread. Check that the MX record is exactly mail.nubo.email and press Check DNS again.
  • Nobody can be given an address. Only the owner or an admin can, and only after verification.
  • Seat limit. Adding members uses seats; see Plans and seats.
