System requirements
What a computer needs for Nubo OS, with a clear line between confirmed items and figures Nubo has not published, such as minimum RAM.
Nubo OS needs a 64-bit Intel or AMD processor (amd64) or a 64-bit Arm processor (arm64), and hardware that Ubuntu 26.04 LTS supports. Nubo has not yet published its own minimum RAM, disk or screen figures, so this page does not give them.
What is confirmed?
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Processor | 64-bit Intel or AMD (amd64), or 64-bit Arm (arm64). |
| Base system | Ubuntu 26.04 LTS “resolute”; hardware Ubuntu 26.04 supports is the starting point. |
| Boot | UEFI. Secure Boot works on the desktop image, because the boot loader and kernel are Ubuntu’s signed ones. |
| Network | Needed for the first-boot app downloads from Flathub and for Nubo account setup. Both retry on the next boot if you are offline. |
| Install media | A USB stick, or a virtual disk image in a virtual machine. |
What is not published?
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Minimum RAM | Not yet published. |
| Minimum free disk | Not yet published. |
| Minimum screen size | Not yet published. |
| Graphics needed for the glass blur effect | Not yet published. |
| Hardware certification list | None exists. |
What does Ubuntu ask for?
As a reference only: Ubuntu Desktop 26.04 lists a dual-core 2 GHz processor, 6 GB of memory and 25 GB of disk. Nubo adds a shell effect, widgets and a launcher, so plan for at least that. See Ubuntu’s download page for current figures.
What about Arm?
The Nubo packages build for amd64 and arm64. The arm64 desktop image has not been tested on real hardware, so treat Arm desktop installs as experimental. Server images for both processors are built for every release.
How do I check my own machine?
Boot the USB stick in the try mode and see how it behaves. See Install Nubo OS.
